New Volkswagen EV: Sketches revealed ahead of Paris debut

Volkswagen has released a series of sketches of its upcoming electric vehicle (EV), ahead of its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. This will be the first pure EV coming from the German automaker. Media reports suggest that the car in question is a five door hatchback, with sliding rear doors.

The sketches indicate that the new EV will feature futuristic styling. The front won't be getting any grille, similar to what has been seen on the Tesla Model 3. The rear gets a steeply raked windscreen, while the roof extends over it like an integrated spoiler.

Matthias Muller, CEO of the Volkswagen Group had earlier mentioned that the EV is expected to have a travel range of 402 to 483 km on a single charge. The car will have fast charging capabilities built into it, and is reported to be able to charge in just 15 minutes. Technology on offer will include 24-hour internet connectivity, which will enable a continuous link to the Volkswagen app store.

After the hatchback EV, Volkswagen plans to introduce other electric vehicles, including a crossover, a luxury sedan, and even a sports car. The company plans to sell a million EVs by 2025.
