My Tata Punch ownership experience after 14 Months and 8,500 Km

The Journey has been quite eventful so far (Mostly positive). I am very impressed with the car in terms of the VFM package it is. I would say that it’s an all-rounder. Below are my observations / feedback so far:

BHPian Aksfdb recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

• Safety – I would rate it 10/10. Just after 24 days of taking the delivery of the vehicle, I met with a major chain accident on Faridabad – Gurugram Road while going to the office. The accident happened due to a Nilgai, which suddenly ran out of the forest and across the busy road giving no warning to anyone. This led to a chain accident wherein there were 6 cars involved and mine was 4th Vehicle from the front. The impact was huge and the car suffered major damage on Both Front as well as Rear. The Front was still in better condition compared to the Rear which took more damage. Even after the crash I was able to drive the car for 20 kms. To take it to the nearest TATA workshop. There was no mechanical damage to the car but the boot was almost completely crushed and the Bonnet, bumper and the other body panels in the front were damaged. I was the only one in the car and I walked off without any scratches. The first though after the accident that crossed my mind was that if it had been my previous vehicle, I would have also been injured for sure.

• Workshop Experience – I would rate it as 7/10 so far. After the accident took the car to Multitech Motors, did all the insurance formalities and the wait started. The repair cost as per the invoice was around 1.26 Lacs. I had to pay INR 3500 including the File charges. The Vehicle was delivered after 35 days that too after rigorous follow ups from my side. I would have rated them lower based on this experience but the Normal Service experience provided by TATA so far has managed to gain some appreciation from my side.

• Driving experience – I would rate it as 9/10. I normally like to cruise in the range of 90-100 KMPH on highways and have been very happy with the power generated by this engine. Have done a couple of trips to the mountains so far and I never felt the lack of power even on steep gradients with the car packed to capacity in terms of Passengers as well as luggage. I am impressed by the Engine and Handling. The Car feels very stable on those speeds and Zero Body roll. The Handling is excellent and along with the commanding position and great visibility all around, it’s fantastic to drive.

• Mileage – I would rate it 9/10. The car returned a decent Mileage of approx. 23-24 KMPL on Highways in Plains and around 17-18 KMPL on Mountains with steep slopes, with AC and bumper to bumper traffic. Normal city average is around 14-15 KMPL with AC and Peak traffic.

• Space and Comfort – I would rate it 10/10. The car has sufficient space to seat my entire family of 5 Adults and 2 small kids. The Boot is sufficient to take care of all the luggage for a week long trip for the entire family. The suspension and Ground clearance are great and you would not feel the Potholes / Bumps inside the cabin much. The Doors open Wide and it makes it very easy for entry / exit in the car for my everyone (especially my parents). The AC is a chiller and we haven’t felt the need to turn it to full blast yet. It chills the cabin very quickly and we mostly use it with Fan speed as 2 and then eventually bringing it to 1 once the temperature is comfortable. The Cabin is also quite and vibration free once you roll up the windows.

The experience has been trouble free so far though I felt that there is a noticeable change in the exhaust note of the car today when I was returning from the Metro station. The sound seems like an Auto rickshaw which was not there when I took the car to the Metro Station. It will be great if anyone can tell me the possible reason behind it and how can it be fixed. I intend to take the car to the Workshop next weekend.
Looking forward to a great ownership experience in the future as well and I will keep on updating this thread periodically.
