Mumbai to Goa luxury cruise begins operation

Angriya, a 131 m long and 17.2 m wide cruise ship is scheduled to operate three times a week between Mumbai and Goa with tickets starting at Rs. 4,300. Claimed to be the first domestic cruise ship in India, its maiden trip took place on October 20, 2018.

Named after the 18th century Admiral of the Maratha Navy Kanhoji Angre, the ship features a spa, an infinity pool and rooms across six different categories. The dormitories get bunk beds while the rooms get single or double beds. It also has two restaurants and six bars. The ship has an 85-member crew which includes the hospitality and marine crew.

The ship has seven decks and was constructed in Japan in 1997. It is powered by dual Pielstick engines generating 27,000 BHP and the top speed is rated at 25 knots (46 km/h). It is claimed that it is the first ship to be registered under the Class 4 RSPV (River Sea Passenger Vessel) by the DG Shipping of India.

The tickets are exclusive of food and a flat Rs. 2,000 fee will be charged per passenger. It includes a welcome drink, high tea, buffet dinner and breakfast. The ship leaves Mumbai from Victoria Docks every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4 pm and reaches Goa the next day at 9 am. On the return trip, Angriya is scheduled to depart from Goa at 4 pm every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and reach Mumbai at 9 am the following day.

Just like a flight, a 25kg check-in baggage will be allowed per person while a small overnight bag will be allowed inside the cabin. Further, the ship doesn't allow pets, children under 6 months and pregnant women after 6 months of pregnancy.
