Monaco GP: Rosberg wins as Hamilton has a strategy blunder

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg, has won the 2015 Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and team mate Lewis Hamilton.

Rosberg and Vettel sat behind Hamilton for 63 of the 78 laps. However, a crash involving Max Verstappen (Torro Rosso) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) led to the deployment of the safety car. Hamilton was called into the pits by his team and rejoined the race just behind Rosberg and Vettel. The safety car was called in on lap 71 and even though Hamilton was on fresher rubber, he could not find a way past Vettel.

Meanwhile, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was forced out of the way by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo in a battle for fifth position. Lower down the order, Jenson Button managed to bring his McLaren Honda home in eighth place to muster the first points of the season for both, his team and himself. Fernando Alonso, driving the second McLaren car, retired from the race.

With the victory, Nico Rosberg is now only 10 points behind Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship standings. Mercedes leads Ferrari in the constructors' championship by 242 points to 158.
