Mercedes-Benz is readying its biggest product onslaught and will launch dozens of new and refreshed models by 2027. These include both, ICE and BEV models.
Mercedes-Benz had vowed in the not-so-recent past to use only EVs in major markets, but disappointing EV sales have made the car maker think otherwise.
Mercedes will begin the product offensive this year starting with the all-new CLA. The CLA will be offered with an electric drivetrain or a 48-volt electrified high-tech four-cylinder engine, mated to an electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The CLA will also debut the proprietary AI-enhanced Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) which will run on all new Mercedes-Benz cars going forward. The MB.OS is a chip-to-cloud software operating system that covers infotainment, automated driving, comfort as well as driving & charging. MB.OS is scalable to fit every segment and can be tailored to each region.
Mercedes will also introduce the MBUX Virtual Assistant, which incorporates multi-agent AI functionalities. Using the latest Large Language Models (LLM) and incorporating conversational as well as behavioural AI, makes the user experience more proactive and human-like. Thanks to memory, it can even answer follow-up questions in a natural way for up to an hour.
Coming to the other models, Mercedes is planning a major upgrade for the S-Class in 2026. All electric versions of the GLC and C-Class are also in the works. Another major boost to the BEV portfolio is the electric E-Class that will go up against the BMW i5.
The BEV drivetrain portfolio will make use of highly modular electric drive units and batteries that are scalable for all segments, including cost-effective Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) and advanced Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) batteries, as well as high-performance round cells.
This new flexible Electric Drive Unit 2.0 (EDU 2.0) will give the option of two or four-wheel drive across all segments.
As far as the ICE portfolio is concerned, Mercedes has a full range of EU-7-compliant four and eight-cylinder engines. Additionally, 12-cylinder engines will continue to be offered in select markets.
