Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class sedan launched at Rs. 31.50 lakh

Mercedes-Benz has launched the CLA-Class sedan in India. The car is priced between Rs. 31.50 and Rs. 35.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The CLA is the smallest sedan from the Mercedes-Benz stable. It measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,777 mm in width and 1,432 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,699 mm. It uses the same MFA platform that is found in the A, B and GLA-Class cars.

The car sports a long bonnet, low and sloping roof, and a relatively short boot, giving it a coupe-like appearance. Other features include frameless windows, bi-xenon headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the CLA is equipped with leather upholstery, climate control, illuminated door sills with Mercedes-Benz lettering and panoramic sunroof, which responds automatically to rain. The car gets an infotainment system with Mercedes Radio, navigation and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system 

On the safety front, the CLA is equipped with features such as six airbags, ESP, ABS, attention assist, steer control, brake assist, hill-start assist and reversing camera among others.

The CLA is available in petrol and diesel versions. The petrol version uses a 1,991 cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 181 bhp @ 5500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1200-4000 rpm. The diesel version is powered by a 2,143 cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine putting out 134 bhp @ 3600-4400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1200-4000 rpm. Both versions use a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The CLA-Class sedan is available as a front-wheel drive only.

The CLA is the least expensive Mercedes-Benz sedan on offer, slotting in below the C-Class. It is a rival for the Audi A3 sedan.
