Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS launched in India at Rs. 8.23 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki) in India at prices starting from Rs. 8.23 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Ciaz SHVS looks almost identical to the regular Ciaz. The only feature that helps us to tell the two apart is the SHVS badge at the rear.

The Ciaz SHVS uses the same 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, 89 BHP diesel engine and 5-speed manual gearbox from the regular Ciaz diesel. However, unlike the standard car, it is equipped with Suzuki's SHVS technology, which features an idling start / stop system, an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a more powerful battery.

The SHVS technology has an idle stop start feature, which switches off the engine when the car is idling and switches it on when the clutch is depressed. The brake energy regeneration function charges the battery during braking. The power is stored in the battery and the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration. The car also comes with a gearshift indicator and the instrument cluster gets additional lights and buttons.

Maruti claims that this technology helps the Ciaz SHVS achieve an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 28.09 kpl - 1.88 kpl more than the Ciaz diesel.

Maruti has now made a driver's airbag a part of standard equipment on the Ciaz across all trim levels. The car also gets a new trim level in both petrol and diesel variants. This variant, dubbed VXi(O) / VDi(O) is positioned above the VXi / VDi. It features ABS, dual airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners.

The Ciaz SHVS comes in VDi, VDi(O), VDi+, ZDi and ZDi+ trim levels.

Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi):

  • Ciaz VDi - Rs. 8,23,000
  • Ciaz VDi(O) - Rs. 8,37,500
  • Ciaz VDi+ - Rs. 8,81,500
  • Ciaz ZDi - Rs. 9,52,500
  • Ciaz ZDi+ - Rs. 10,17,500
