Maruti recall could cover Swift and Ertiga as well

Earlier this week we had reported that India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited could issue a recall for 1.5 lakh units of the Swift Dzire compact sedan to rectify a problem with the fuel neck filler. Fresh information suggests that the recall could cover the Swift hatchback as well as the Ertiga MPV. The total number of vehicles likely to be recalled is approximately one lakh.

A report by Times of India indicates that the recall will be issued to 47,237 units of the Swift (petrol and diesel), 42,481 units of the Dzire and 13,593 units of the Ertiga (petrol, CNG and diesel variants). The recall is expected to be initiated next week and will be pertinent to cars manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014.

Giving details of the defect, the company has stated, "Our supplier of fuel filler neck had carried out a repair in his machine after a breakdown. After repair, inadequate setting resulted into improper screw shape. Due to the above, there is a possibility of fuel smell and in extreme condition fuel may leak if it is filled up to the fuel cap level."
