Maneuver Braking while parking - Finally enabled in my Skoda Slavia

I finally was able to experience my car braking on its own - A kind of ADAS in action but only at low speeds.

Maneuver Braking while parking - Finally enabled!

I am not sure if this is a useful feature in dense traffic(probably would have to turn off auto detection), but I finally was able to experience my car braking on its own - A kind of ADAS in action but only at low speeds. The 8K PDC I had on my car supports this kind of braking however, due to a wrong dataset loaded in the ECU, it had a permanent error on it regarding a missing Electric Park Brake. The seller whom I got this ECU from had flashed a dataset close to what matched my car but turns out, this also required an EPB module and wasnt the exact dataset(since the datasets are created based on the exact vehicle and the Slavia never had a 8K PDC). Due to this error, while the parking sensors worked flawlessly, the braking function was permanently blocked.

I managed to find the right dataset thanks to a setup Eurocar Retrofits in the NCR region who had earlier done these projects as well a full park pilot project on a Virtus which was a proof that the car could have more and more retrofits So thanks to them for helping me with the feature enablement. Here is a video of it in action - I drive into the pillar WITHOUT braking myself, and the parking system will command the ESP to apply brake and send out a warning:

The banging noise you hear is the brakes being slammed hard by the ESP and not the car crashing into the pillar. It was quite some distance from the pillar. And it does not brake if you are already having foot on the brake so I believe it should not be very intrusive, unless if we really miss an obstacle. I will get to know in the coming days if I end up turning this feature off, but I have bigger upgrade coming anyway.

Disclaimer: A lot of people have contacted me regarding these fitments and especially the cost aspect. These are not regular DIY stuff and needs a fair bit of time effort and experimenting before we can get things right, especially in this example. In my own case, I already have diagnostic tools, a lot of other tools for installation or wiring, calibration mat etc. Unfortunately, I would not be able to support in the actual installation efforts since this is a hobby and I have a full time profession which wont give me the time to do this. Neither can I sell this stuff to anyone because I would not be able to offer technical support or a commercial bill. Secondly, the cost of what I procure these items have been shared by me just as a reference if you order the items only and not the efforts I put to install it or secondary work such as the investment on diagnostic tools, secondary work such as painting the sensors, etc and cant be a reference for what you pay if you want this to be installed by someone running a business.

Hence, please keep this in mind when you plan any such retrofits to your car that there will be overheads involved and the price quoted by me or something like Aliexpress is not going to be your reference price to deal with a seller who is also offering technical support or installation support.

Next project up is a PLA 3.0 upgrade with auto park capability. Stay tuned!
