Mahindra Scorpio coming with a mild-hybrid system

Mahindra is planning to introduce a mild-hybrid system in the Scorpio. Dubbed as 'Intelli-Hybrid', this mild-hybrid technology will only be available in the 2.2-litre powered variants, and hence will not be available to the Delhi-NCR customers who get the downsized 1.99-litre engine.

Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio gets a 'Micro-Hybrid' system, which is nothing but a simple automatic start/stop technology. However, the new 'Intelli-Hybrid' will be a proper mild-hybrid system, which will provide electrical assistance to the engine.

As a result, the 'Intelli-Hybrid' system will consist of the basic automatic start/stop functionality, regenerative braking, a large capacity battery, and an advanced integrated starter motor. This starter motor would function two roles: an alternator to charge the battery and a motor to provide electrical boost to the engine during certain driving conditions. This is expected to mildly improve the fuel economy of the Scorpio, and thus enhance its value for money image.

After its debut in the Scorpio, the mild-hybrid system will make way to other Mahindra products as well.
