Mahindra Racing enters FIA Formula E Championship

Mahindra Racing has announced its participation in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship, which begins in September 2014.The only Indian entry, Mahindra racing is the eighth out of a targeted ten teams to sign up for the series.

The 10-round Formula E Championship will be held in various cities across the world, the first race being in Beijing and the last in London. The zero emission series is designed to spread awareness about electric vehicles and help advance EV technology. A report by Ernst and Young, forecasts that Formula E will contribute to a jump in the sale of electric vehicles by 77 million over the next 25 years.

Mahindra, who manufactures the e2o electric car, claims that the foray into the Formula E Championship will help it develop next generation EV technologies.

While Mahindra is no stranger to international motorsports, this will be the first time it will venture into car racing.

Further details of Mahindra Racing’s Formula E team will be revealed over the course of the next few months.
