Mahindra to partner with global brands for cell production

The carmaker plans to roll out seven electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2030.

Mahindra Group plans to partner with global brands for battery cell production in India.

Anish Shah, MD and CEO of the Mahindra Group, said, “One area that we continue to look at more closely is cell manufacturing and that is something where there are various considerations… if we feel it’s essential for us, we will look at a partnership for cell manufacturing.”

“We will look at a global technology partner, and potentially at private equity partners as well because we will not put the entire capital,” Shah said.

Earlier, Mahindra signed an agreement with the Volkswagen Group that will enable the sharing of key EV components between the two brands. Mahindra will source components and unified cells from VW’s MEB architecture for its INGLO platform.

The carmaker plans to roll out seven electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2030. These will include INGLO-based models like the XUV.e8, XUV.e9 coupe and BE.05. As per the latest reports, electric versions of the Scorpio and Bolero are also in the works.
