Lost both original keys of my VW Polo: What to do now

Volkswagen dealerships are saying that the only option is to order a new key, which will take approx 10 days, and also, tow the car to the showroom and get it coded.

BHPian bipinbn recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Folks, need help/advice.

I own a 2021 VW Polo GT TSI [1.0 TSI]. Two days back, I lost the keyfob somewhere on the road in Bangalore with no chance of finding it back.

I did not worry too much and called my parents to courier me the spare key to my home in Mysore. To our surprise, we could not find the spare mechanical key as well. I remember getting it while taking delivery of the car but nowhere to be found at home now.

So right now I am in a situation with both the original key fob and mechanical key lost [GT TSI came with only one remote key/keyfob] with the car locked and parked in my apartment parking lot.

Spoke to the VW showroom in Bangalore as well as Mysore and they said the only option is to order a new key which will take approx 10 days and also tow the car to the showroom and get it coded. Need inputs on the below questions please:

  • Is there any other way to avoid towing the car to the showroom?
  • If I order the remote key, collect it from the showroom and open the door using the key in the remote, will I be able to drive the car to the showroom?
  • Will any outside key makers be able to help me here? Contacted one in the Whitefield area and he said that nothing could be done in my situation.
  • Is the mechanical key that comes with the car also coded to the vehicle? I don't remember it having any battery in it. Does the car start and move with the mechanical key or is it just for getting in?

What other options do I have? Thanks in advance.

Here's what BHPian tbppjpr had to say about the matter:

Be it a remote or mechanical key, both have immobilizer codes in them. So in case the car thinks the wrong key is inserted, it will not start.

I am not sure if there is any other way than to take it to the service station, and I hope nothing as such exists for the sake of the security of our cars.

My friend's Vento's key once erred in mid of traffic and he wasn't able to start it again after the engine got turned off all of a sudden on a traffic signal. He had to call the service station and get the immobilizer error fixed. Old incident so don't exactly remember how he managed to take the car out of the traffic that time.
