Mahindra is working on a long-wheelbase version of its compact SUV offering - the TUV300. Test mules of this stretched TUV have already been spotted testing under heavy camouflage. Reports suggest that this upcoming model will be named as the TUV500, though no official confirmation has been made yet. In addition to the longer wheelbase, the stretched TUV will also come with some other feature and mechanical changes.

Since the longer wheelbase will liberate more space inside the cabin, Mahindra will likely offer an optional front facing third row seat, in addition to the standard side facing seats currently available on the sub-4m model. There will be some feature additions as well, though deeper details haven’t surfaced yet.

The biggest change made on the larger TUV will be in regards to the powertrain. Since it already exceeds the 4-metre length criterion for small cars, Mahindra will likely equip it with a 2.2-litre engine, which will be borrowed from the Scorpio. Moreover, the AMT gearbox currently available with the TUV300 won't be compatible with the larger 2.2-litre engine. As a result, the TUV500 is expected to get a 6-speed slush box from the Scorpio.

The long-wheelbase TUV is expected to be launched as a replacement of the ageing Xylo MPV. No specific launch window has been revealed yet. However, sources suggest that Mahindra will launch the bigger TUV after introduction of the XUV500 Intelli Hybrid.
