Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee test mules reappear on roads

In 2014, Fiat Chrylser Automobiles (FCA) had delayed the launch of Jeep in India citing a sluggish market. Now, with its plans back on track, the company has re-started testing its cars on our roads. These models include the Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited and Grand Cherokee, which are expected to be launched later this year or in early 2016.

The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited have classic Jeep styling. While the former comes with a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, the latter comes with a 2.8-litre, diesel engine.

The Grand Cherokee is a luxury SUV that is powered by a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine.

In July this year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced its plans to invest $ 280 million (approximately Rs. 1,780 crore) to expand its manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune for the assembly of Jeep models. Apart from existing models, the company will assemble a new SUV what is rumoured to be priced at Rs. 15 lakh. The plant will start rolling out vehicles in 2017.
