IIT-B Racing team develops India's fastest electric race car

IIT Bombay Racing team has developed a new electric race car named Orca. The team behind this project claims that Orca is the country's fastest electric race car. Orca will now compete in the Formula Student Race in UK, a famed competition which brings college-level teams from around the world to race against each other at the Silverstone circuit using indigenously developed cars.

The IIT-B Racing Team has previously made many interesting project cars, including Agni, Prithvi and the electric Evo Series. The team has been a part of college-level racing for the past 8 years. Orca is the fifth car coming out from IIT-B's expert team.

Powered by a battery pack of 95 cells, Orca develops 80 Kw of power. This 389 volt battery is capable of accelerating the car from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.47 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 145 kph.

The Formula Student championship scheduled in July will see more than 100 student teams from over 30 countries competing for the acclaimed title. Entries will be judged on variety of parameters including type of engineering, presentation skills, and innovative technologies used. Though IIT-B has constantly ranked within the first 50 teams in the past couple of years, the racing team now hopes to make it to the top-20 list with the new IIT-B Orca.
