Hyundai crosses 50 lakh production mark in India

Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) has reached a new production milestone. The Korean car maker has made its 50,00,000th car, which happened to be a Verna. The milestone was reached 19 years after the company started its operations in India.

Hyundai started local production in 1998. In less than 9 years, Hyundai reached its first production milestone of 10 lakh cars. The 10,00,000th car produced by the company was a Santro. By November 2010, the car maker had manufactured 20 lakh vehicles and by July 2013, the 30-lakh mark was crossed. The 40,00,000th car was dispatched in November 2015.

Hyundai’s current portfolio consists of the Eon and Grand i10 at the lower end followed by the Xcent, Elite i20, i20 Active, Verna and Elantra. The Creta and Tucson are the company's only SUVs that are currently on sale in India. 

Hyudai is also working on a new hatchback that is expected to slot in between the Eon and Grand i10. The new model is likely to be called the Santro and is expected to be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo.
