Geneva 2015: Koenigsegg Regera hypercar unveiled

Hybrid supercars have given us a glimpse into the future. While machines like the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and Mclaren P1 are nothing short of revolutionary, Koenigsegg has just presented the Regera - a hypercar car with performance figures that are beyond belief.

To begin with, Koenigsegg says the Regera is not a hybrid as it does not compromise on the facets of weight, complexity, cost, packaging and efficiency (as per the official statement). The 1,420 kg (dry) Regera is powered by a 5.0-litre, twin-turbo charged V8 engine, complimented by three electric motors. The internal combustion engine produces around 1,100 BHP by itself. When combined with the electric motors (2 mounted at each rear wheel and one on the crankshaft) - the final output comes in at around 1800 BHP and over 2000 Nm torque. 0-100 km/h is said to come up in a scorching 2.8 seconds, while the climb from 150-250 km/h takes all of 3.2 seconds! 0 to 400 km/h is pulled off in under 20 seconds.

The electric motors are powered by a 9.27 kWh, 620 Volt battery pack located in the carbon-aramid chassis tunnel. The battery can be charged by the I.C.E or through a type 2 mode 3 charging port placed behind the rear number plate. On electric power alone, the car can travel for a distance of around 29 kms.

The power is channeled to the rear wheels through the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission. The Swedish car maker says KDD manages to directly channel the propulsion to the rear axle from the combustion engine without the need for multiple gears or other traditional types of variable ratio transmissions. The complete KDD system, including the battery, adds just 88kg to the Regera's weight.

Koenigsegg will produce only 80 units of the Regera. Brand head - Christian Von Koenigsegg, says that 4 units of the Regera were booked before the customers even saw the car.
