Front indicators on my Urban Cruiser don't work when ignition is on

My car is with the Toyota dealer for the past 2 days but they are not able to find any fault.

BHPian midazolam recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Good Evening everyone, I’m having a strange issue with my 2020 Toyota Urban Cruiser (same as facelifted petrol Brezza). Both the front indicators of the car are not working when the ignition is on (but the DRLs are working) but they work when the ignition is off. My car is with the Toyota dealer for the past 2 days but they are not able to find any fault.

Request members to please give their opinion regarding what could be the fault.

Here's what BHPian Jeroen had to say on the matter:

This sounds like a ground fault. Which can be difficult to trace. They need to check the circuits for any damage and damaged insulation. If visuals don’t show anything, you need to start disconnecting both plus and minus to the light bulbs and start checking each circuit and circuit component individually for any shorts against ground/mass.

It could also be a case of a poor mass. So check the respective circuits, disconnect the various mass bolts and clean them.

I had a similar problem on my Jaguar many years ago and it took me days to find it.

Good luck

Jeroen

Here's what BHPian SS-Traveller had to say on the matter:

Do the front indicators work when you turn on the hazard light switch, irrespective of the ignition switch being on or off? Apart from the likelihood of a ground fault, the indicator stalk or its harness could also be the culprit.

BHPian midazolam replied:

@Jeroen  Thank you sir for the prompt reply. They have checked all the wiring and circuits and found nothing wrong. As the headlights are sealed LED units, individual bulbs can not be disconnected but they exchanged headlights with a demo unit and the same problem persisted.

Will let them know about the mass bolts.

@SS-Traveller, Sir, the same problem occurs using hazard lights also. Front indicators do not work when hazard lights are switched on with ignition on, but they do work with ignition off.
