Ford to sell Explorer SUVs without rear AC and heating

The Ford plans to install the missing chips in customer cars through its dealerships within a year.

The Ford Motor Company has been hit by the global chip shortage. Production of the Explorer SUV has been adversely affected and the carmaker has been forced to sell the model without rear air conditioning and heating controls.

According to media reports, Ford plans to sell partially built Explorers that are awaiting semiconductors. The company would install the missing chips in customer cars through its dealerships within a year.

Said Deep, Director, Ford North America Communications, has stated that in vehicles affected by the ongoing chip shortage, occupants will be able to control heating and air-conditioning from the front seats. Also, customers who choose to purchase a vehicle without rear controls will receive a price reduction.
