Ford plans to export 2 lakh cars per year from India by 2020

In December 2014, we had reported that Ford India's exports were higher than its domestic sales (click here to read report). In 2014-15, the company's exports stood at 81,703 units while the domestic sales stood at 75,138 units.

Now, Ford has revealed that it has plans to make India a major manufacturing and export hub in the future. The company aims to increase its production capacity to 4.4 lakh cars per year in the country by 2020. Out of this, it plans to export more than 2.2 lakh cars every year to markets such as Europe, Africa, Middle-East and Asia-Pacific.

Ford has not been doing very well in India. The only car from its stable that manages to sell in decent numbers at the moment is the EcoSport. The company's low production capacity did not let the EcoSport achieve the sales numbers that it could have.

With the start of the new plant at Sanand and the introduction of the Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan and hatchback, the company will be looking to change its fortunes.
