Ford EcoSport tops list of exported cars in FY 2016

The Nissan Micra held the position of the most exported car in FY 2015. In FY 2016, it has been overtaken by the Ford EcoSport.

Ford's export sales have been more than its sales in the domestic market. In India, the EcoSport is struggling to keep up with the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which was launched recently. However, in exports, the car jumped from fourth position in FY 2015 (55,178 units) to first position in FY 2016 (83,325 units), registering a growth of 51%.

The Nissan Micra's exports fell by 1% from 76,120 units in FY 2015 to 75,456 units in FY 2016. The Volkswagen Vento retained third position with 63,157 units - a growth of 13% over the 56,064 units registered in FY 2015. In fourth position lies the Maruti Suzuki Alto with 54,656 units. In FY 2015, the Alto stood in seventh position registering 31,594 units. The big jump in the exports of the Alto is because the exports of the car to Sri Lanka have gone up from 10,200 units in FY 2015 to 34,600 units in FY 2016.

Hyundai has four models featuring in the top ten exported cars from India in FY 2016 - the Grand i10 (fifth place - 44,672 units as against 63,585 units in FY 2015), Xcent (eight place - 29,540 units), i10 (ninth place - 21,113 units as against 23,961 units in FY 2015) and Creta (tenth place - 19,442).

In sixth and seventh places lie the Chevrolet Beat and Nissan Sunny with 37,082 units and 31,027 units respectively.

The total passenger vehicle exports in FY 2016 stood at 6,53,889 units - a growth of 5.24% over the 6,21,341 units exported in FY 2015.
