Force Motors is looking to expand the Gurkha line-up. Besides a 4x2 variant, the company is reportedly evaluating an automatic gearbox option.
According to a media report, Force Motors may offer the Gurkha with an automatic transmission sourced from the Japan Automatic Transmission Company (JATCO). It is said that the automaker is considering a 7-speed torque convertor unit for its off-roader, as it will work well with its 4-wheel drive system.
Unlike the Gurkha 4x2, which is expected to be an entry-level model, the Gurkha automatic will be slightly more expensive than the manual version. It is likely to be offered in both 3-door and 5-door versions of the SUV.
The Gurkha Automatic is expected to be powered by the same 2.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine. This unit produces 138 BHP and 320 Nm and is currently available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Gurkha Automatic will compete with the Mahindra Thar 4x4 AT and Maruti Suzuki Jimny AT.
