First batch of Tigor EVs roll out of Tata Motors' Sanand unit

The first batch of the Tigor electric vehicle (EV) has rolled out of Tata Motors’ Sanand plant in Gujarat. The Tigor-based EVs will soon be inducted into the Indian government’s official fleet.

In October 2017, Tata Motors bagged a government contract to supply EVs to the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). As part of the deal, the company will deliver 10,000 EVs over the next 12 months. In the first phase, Tata Motors will deliver 250 Tigor EVs. EESL is expected to send a letter of approval (LoA) for an additional 100 cars soon.

M/s Electra EV supplies the AC 3-Phase electric motors that power the Tigor EV. As per an ARAI document, the electric motor produces 40 BHP at 55 km/h. The gross weight of the vehicle is 1,516 kg. Having said that, the specification of the battery and the maximum range that can achieved on a single charge is still unknown.
