Tata to build EVs at Sanand plant from April 2024

Tata Motors acquired the former Ford India manufacturing unit for Rs 725.7 crore.

Tata Motors began operations at its newly acquired Sanand plant in Gujarat recently. According to the company, the factory will start producing EVs in April 2024.

Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with Nexon EV from April."

The Nexon EV will be the first electric car to be built at the Sanand plant. The new facility has an annual production capacity of 3,00,000 units per annum, which is scalable to 4,20,000 units per annum.

In August 2022, Tata Motors acquired the former Ford India manufacturing unit, along with machinery and other equipment at a cost of Rs 725.7 crores.
