Facing lighting, rusting and paint issues with my new Tata Safari

I haven't had any critical ADAS errors so far but I've been driving the SUV in the city only and haven't hit triple-digit speeds or even high 2-digit speeds for that matter.

BHPian alphamike_1612 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Can attest that the memory failure error occurs when you select 2 seat settings in quick succession without letting the seat complete the first setting.

I need some help on the following issues and if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful:

  • Rear licence plate light not working - Placed the stalk in auto headlight/manual headlight/position lamps only, but in all conditions, the light doesn't work.
  • Similarly, the interior mood lights work in the front driver door pocket (the storage area) but not in any of the other 3 doors (both rear doors and front passenger door)
  • None of the smaller interior lights work. Lights such as the power window switches, boss mode switches, charging socket legends and the 12V socket light inside the chilled armrest box.
  • The Tata Assist/SOS buttons are also not illuminated at night.
  • Reset the trip meter but still get an FE of 8 km/L only. Don't know if this is my driving style or because of a glitch.

My vehicle is an Accomplished + MT.

Regarding the MT, I believe my opinions will change as I make myself more familiar with the vehicle. The roar of the engine is a sweet thing to hear that is missed in the AT.

Update 1

Adding to the list of woes-

Rust on the steering shaft.

Was peering into the engine bay today with a torch and this brown caught my eyes.

There was rust on a few washers during PDI which the dealer said was just surface rust and didn't matter.

I wonder how TaMo allows these cars to pass through PDI or is this similar across all manufacturers and I'm just freaking out?. Mine has a sticker that says passed PDI on 31st July 2024.

The car otherwise seems to be good. I'm now giving guarded responses because I don't know what else will fail. Haven't had any critical ADAS errors or anything else. (But I've been driving through the city only and haven't hit triple-digit speeds or even high 2-digit speeds for that matter.)

I have been looking at this entire episode through a shaded lens (That QC at Tata is poor) and this is making me paranoid.

My biggest regret here is that it is not my money, but my father's 30 large ones that have been used to pay for this solely based on my recommendations.

Reached out to my sales advisor to whom I've highlighted all these issues. (The lights, panel gaps and the rust). He told me he has reached out to his team and will update me at the earliest. Hoping this is resolved easily and doesn't prolong.

I'm also cursing myself for not involving a 3rd party PDI. I spent nearly an hour with the vehicle and checked stuff like whether the USB ports worked, but didn't check whether the lights inside the cabin were glowing or not. I also was not able to see the rust on the steering shaft.

Update 2

Adding some more paint defects I found this morning. I'm now extremely disappointed in Tata and the vehicle. I never would have found these if I hadn't looking for them.

During PDI I pointed out several of these spots and the SA told me this was just dust and would be cleaned before delivery. Guess they cleaned it so well that they destroyed the paint.

Either the clear coat or the top layer of paint is peeling away.

Rust has started developing on the left rear passenger entryway in the chassis.

Overspray on the roof rail tape/paper/plastic that comes into the boot. This is on both sides. You can also see a pinhole on the paint or peeling away of the paint on the right side. (Last image)

Once again, cursing myself for not involving a 3rd party PDI.
