F1: Lewis Hamilton wins Canadian GP after battle with Vettel

Lewis Hamilton has won his second consecutive Formula1 race of the season, after a close competition with Sebastian Vettel at the 2016 Canadian Grand Prix. This win has helped Hamilton to reduce the gap between him and his team mate Nico Rosberg, who is currently leading the season's leadership charts.

Sebastian Vettel made good use of his Ferrari in the initial laps of the race, where he managed to move to first position quickly, after starting at number 3 on the pole. He passed both Mercedes drivers within a distance of just 100 metres, and managed to secure enough lead by the time the Mercedes reached turn one.

But at the exit of turn one, both Mercedes cars touched each other slightly, which pushed Rosberg to the grass. Hamilton thus took the second spot. Vettel tried hard to stretch his lead, but Hamilton managed to stay on his tail, with a time difference of around one second.

The Ferrari team decided it is best to stick to the two-stop strategy. This put Hamilton at the front, as the Mercedes team decided to carry on with just one pit stop. Vettel did try to get hold of the Mercedes but failed to breach the lead that Hamilton had made. Meanwhile, Williams' Valtteri Bottas came in third ahead of Max Verstappen and Nico Rosberg.

Vettel's teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished sixth followed by Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg. Carlos Sainz in his Scuderia Torro Rosso and Force India's Sergio Perez finished ninth and tenth respectively.

After the Canadian GP, the driver rankings are as follows:
1. Nico Rosberg - 116 points
2. Lewis Hamilton - 107 points
3. Sebastian Vettel - 78 points
