Toyota returns to F1; Sign partnership with Haas

Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, will be seen racing with Toyota Gazoo Racing-branded F1 cars.

Toyota has announced its return to Formula 1. The Japanese car giant has signed a technical partnership with the Haas F1 team, effective immediately.

The Haas and Toyota partnership is said to be a multi-year agreement between the racing team and Toyota's R&D division, TGR (Toyota Gazoo Racing). The partnership will run alongside Haas's arrangement with Ferrari, with whom the racing team has been working since their entry into the sport, back in 2016.

Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will provide design, technical, and manufacturing services to the racing team. Haas, on the other hand, will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits in return.

Haas F1 team boss, Ayao Komatsu, stated, "I’m hugely excited that MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing have come together to enter into this technical partnership." He further added, "The ability to tap into the resources and knowledge base available at Toyota Gazoo Racing, while benefiting from their technical and manufacturing processes, will be instrumental in our own development and our clear desire to further increase our competitiveness in Formula 1. In return we offer a platform for Toyota Gazoo Racing to fully utilize and subsequently advance their in-house engineering capabilities."

Tomoya Takahashi, President, Gazoo Racing Company, stated, "By competing alongside MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the pinnacle of motorsports, we aim to cultivate drivers, engineers, and mechanics while strengthening the capabilities of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing, and we desire to contribute to motorsports and the automotive industry."

With the United States Grand Prix coming up, both Haas drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, will be seen racing with Toyota Gazoo Racing-branded F1 cars.
