Ferrari has unveiled its all-new hypercar, the F80. The new Ferrari F80 is the successor to the LaFerrari and is the latest flagship in the lineup, which includes iconic models such as the 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo.
The Ferrari F80 is the brand's most powerful road-going car to date. It combines technology from its Le Mans-winning 499P and Formula 1 race cars. The F80 will be limited to 799 units worldwide (all sold out), each with a starting price tag of GBP 3 million.
Starting with the design, Ferrari has styled the F80 with a focus on optimising aerodynamics. The hypercar features slim headlights at the front and a black panel similar to that on the 12Cilindri model. The hypercar also comes with an 'S-duct' inspired by Ferrari's 499P Le Mans race car and large barge boards from its F1 cars. The hypercar runs on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear carbon fibre wheels and has plenty of aero ducts on the side, a massive diffuser at the rear, and a massive active rear wing. Ferrari claims the F80 can generate as much as 1000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
The F80 features a complete carbon fibre monocoque, while the front and rear sub-frames are made of aluminium. The hypercar also gets hollow structures used as cooling ducts for the brakes, while the double wishbone setup on the F80's active suspension is created using 3D printing.
Inside, the Ferrari F80 features an asymmetrical setup with the passenger seats slightly pushed back. The driver's seat is the main focus inside. The F80 comes with a new steering wheel with a flat top and bottom and features haptic switches. There is also a digital instrument cluster and a small horizontal screen on the passenger side.
Coming to the most interesting part, the powertrain. The Ferrari F80 hypercar uses the brand's 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which on its own produces over 900 BHP. This, paired with the hybrid system, takes the hypercar's total power output to 1,200 BHP. The engine is paired with three electric motors - one on each front wheel and one at the rear, with the rear acting as the MGU-K. The F80 is also the first Ferrari to feature 'e-turbos'. The hybrid powertrain comes mated to an 8-speed automatic.
Ferrari claims the F80 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.15 seconds, while 0-200 km/h comes up in 5.75 seconds. It can reach a top speed of 349 km/h.
The Ferrari F80 hypercar is a direct rival to the McLaren W1 (McLaren P1 successor) which was also revealed recently.
