BMW is planning to re-introduce its flagship 8-Series by 2020. The car will be pitted against the S-Class Coupe and the Bentley Continental GT.
It is still uncertain whether BMW will bring the new 8-Series in a 2-door or 4-door avatar. The car is likely to be built at BMW's Dingolfing factory in Germany. The car will share technology, components, etc. with the sixth-generation 7-Series. A pre-production concept of the 8-Series will be showcased in 2018.
With the introduction of the 8-Series, BMW will strengthen its presence in the lucrative luxury car market. A senior manager suggested that this car will be priced much lower than the subsequent Rolls-Royce models.
The 8-Series was in production from 1989 to 1999 as a 2-door coupe. In 2013, BMW and Pininfarina displayed the Gran Lusso Coupe concept, which was most likely to be the new-generation 8-Series. However, back then, the company officially denied any plans of the brand's resurrection.
