Apple could launch an electric car in 2024

The Apple EV might also have self-driving capability.

According to a media report, Apple could launch an electric car in 2024. The Apple EV is part of what is known as Project Titan. Following Bob Mansfield's retirement, the project is now headed by John Giannadrea, Senior Vice President for Machine Learning and AI strategy.

The EV is said to feature what is claimed to be the "next level" battery technology. The report states that the new battery technology could bring down the cost of batteries drastically. It would also increase the range of the vehicle. The battery is said to use a "monocell" design. It allows for more active material to be packed inside the battery, which would give the car additional range. Apple is reportedly examining lithium iron phosphate (LFP) for its battery.

The Apple EV might also have self-driving capability. It could use multiple LIDAR sensors derived from Apple's internally developed LIDAR units.
