All-new Volkswagen Passat launched at Rs. 30 lakh

Volkswagen has launched the all-new Passat in India. The sedan is available in two variants - Comfortline and Highline at introductory prices of Rs. 30 lakh and Rs. 33 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. 

The all-new Passat is based on the MQB modular platform and features an evolutionary design. The overall length of new Passat is 4,767 mm. It measures 1,832 mm in width, 1,456 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,786 mm. The Passat has a 586 litre boot (1,152 litres with rear seats folded) and a 66-litre fuel tank.

The front end gets a new three-slat chrome grille with a large chrome strip on top that extends on to the headlights. The lights themselves consist of twin-LEDs with an LED DRL strip placed along the lower edge of the headlamp cluster. The redesigned dual-tone bumper houses the fog lamps. The Passat Comfortline rides on 16-inch Aragon alloy wheels while the Highline variant gets 17-inch London alloys. A chrome strip runs along the skirt of the car and wraps around the rear bumper. A similar chrome trim goes around the side windows. The car also gets new design LED tail lights.

The interior of the Passat features a three-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel with chrome accents and a twin-pod instrument cluster with a central MID. The dashboard features a continuous vent-like feature with a centrally mounted clock and unpolished wood trim that extends onto the door panels. The centre console gets piano black finish and houses an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The seats are wrapped in leather upholstery.

The new Passat comes loaded with features like 3-zone automatic climate control with rear air-con vents, electric seats with memory and massage function for driver's seat, electric ORVM with auto-dimming feature, electric rear sunshade, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, parking sensors and reverse camera with a 360-degree view and hands-free parking, keyless entry with engine start/stop button, electric boot, etc. The electric sunroof and adaptive chassis control (DCC) with driving profile selection is only available on the Highline trim.

The list of safety features that are part of the standard package include 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, ASR, hill start assist, auto hold and tire pressure monitoring. It also comes with ISOFIX child seat mounting points at the rear.

VW offers the Passat with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine paired with a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The engine delivers 174 BHP @ 3,600-4,000 rpm and 350 Nm @ 1,500-3,500 rpm. The car rides on McPherson struts with anti-roll bars in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear. The 16-inch wheels come with 215/60 R16 tyres while the larger 17-inch alloys are offered with 215/55 R17 tyres. It gets disc brakes all around.

The new Passat is available with 6 colour options - Oryx White Pearleffect, Deep Black Pearleffect, Black Oak Brown Metallic, Pyrit Silver Metallic, Atlantic Blue Metallic and Mangan Grey Metallic.
