All-new Toyota Prius revealed

Toyota has revealed the Prius in its fourth generation and it's the first global vehicle to use the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The hybrid car features a design that is typical of Toyota vehicles of late and is far from subtle.

The headlamps are shaped like the number 7 and are styled to add to the car's aggression. The car features a small front grille, a 3-slat air dam and a blue highlighted Toyota logo integrated into the front bumper. The car features door mounted wing mirrors, black plastic inserts near the A and C-pillars, and a character line that runs from the front wheel well to the rear door. At the rear, we see boomerang-shaped vertical tail lights, a large black insert in the rear bumper, and a black finish on the boot lid that gives the impression of a floating rear spoiler.

The car is available in 8 colour shades and with the new over the top styling, Toyota is trying to position the Prius as more than a "green car". Length x width x height x wheelbase dimensions come in at 4,540 mm x 1,760 mm x 1,470 mm x 2,700 mm, making the car 60 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the older model, while the height drops by 20 mm.

All models will feature the Toyota safety sense package, which includes (depending on grade and market) the pre-collision system, lane departure alert, automatic high beam and dynamic radar cruise control. Road sign assist is available exclusively in Europe.

The Prius went on sale in 1997 and over 3.5 million units have been sold worldwide. The new Prius will go on sale in Japan at the end of 2015, and is subsequently scheduled for launches around the world.
