Volkswagen has imported a single unit of the 2016 Tiguan SUV for testing purposes. Zauba records show that the model in question has been brought in from Germany on September 28, 2016.

Volkswagen had showcased the 2016 Tiguan at the 2016 Auto Expo, which was held in February this year. The automaker had claimed that the Tiguan might be brought into the country, depending on the market response. It is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, which also underpins the latest generation Passat and Octavia sedans. The 2016 Tiguan was globally unveiled last year, and is currently on sale in the United Kingdom.

The imported model is powered by a 1,968 cc, diesel engine. In the international markets, this engine is offered with two transmission options - a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic. It is available in both 2WD and 4WD setups.

If things go as per plan, Volkswagen is likely to launch the Tiguan in India next year.
