The all-new 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been spotted testing in Bangalore under heavy camouflage. This is the first time that the new-gen Fortuner has been spotted testing on public roads in India. Toyota India had imported the new Fortuner for R&D purposes in October 2015.

The all-new Fortuner made its global debut in Thailand last year. Features on the outside include a chrome grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, and redesigned taillights with LED inserts. The side profile gets a prominent kink in the window line near the C-pillar.

Powering options on offer in the international-spec Fortuner include two diesel engines: a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre, and a petrol motor of 2.7-litre capacity. India will most likely get only the diesel engines like the ones on Innova Crysta. The 2.4L produces 148 BHP and 400 Nm of torque while the 2.8L generates 175 BHP and 450 Nm of torque. These engines are expected to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The top-end 2.8-litre variant will likely get the All-Wheel Drive setup, while the entry-level variants will come with rear wheel drive.

Toyota had earlier announced that the company won’t be making any further investments in India, owing to the losing market potential due to the diesel car ban in Delhi-NCR. This announcement had started rumours about the 2016 Fortuner launch in India being postponed. But with the new spy shots, Toyota India appears to still be working on the 2016 Fortuner for the domestic market.
