2014 Toyota Corolla to be showcased at the Auto Expo

Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited (TKML) has been testing the 2014 Corolla on Indian roads over the past few months. IndianAutosBlog reports that Toyota could unveil the 2014 Corolla at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo next year. The report goes on to suggest that the 2014 Corolla's unveil event would be more of a showcasing with the official launch of the car to happen much later.

Toyota India's Deputy Managing Director Mr Sandeep Singh, has stated that all-new cars would be launched in India only from 2015. This schedule could be maintained with the 2014 Corolla as well. The 2014 Corolla is the 11th generation version of one of Toyota's best selling cars.

The latest generation version of the car features a new design that is a step up from the conservative lines that successive generations of the Corolla have adopted. The car also gets LED headlamps, tail lamps and revised alloy wheels. Apart from sharper looks, the 2014 Corolla also gets larger in terms of dimensions.

The car's wheelbase has increased by 75 mm and this makes for more spacious interiors. The interiors of the 2014 Corolla also see a revamp in the form of the new dashboard, instrumentation and soft touch interiors. The car also gets better sound insulation and a new set of features such as Bluetooth hands free calling and a push button start.

In terms of the engines and transmissions, Toyota will retain the 1.8 liter VVT-i petrol engine (138 Bhp-173 Nm) and the 1.4 liter D-4D turbo diesel engine (87 Bhp-205 Nm). The petrol engine will be offered with a 6 speed manual gearbox and a 7 speed CVTi-S automatic gearbox while the diesel engine will be available only with a 6 speed manual.

Toyota has worked on boosting fuel efficiency of the new car. The CVTi-S automatic transmission has been improved to deliver better mileage while the car also gets a new, electric power steering system that is said to boost fuel efficiency by 3-5 %. ABS+EBD and airbags are likely to be the safety features offered on this car.
