Renault announces concessions, discounts for specially-abled

Renault has announced that it will charge a concessional GST rate of 18 percent on its cars, as directed by Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Heavy Industries, for the specially-abled.  The company will also offer additional discounts through its dealer network in the country.

Under the scheme, all the Renault India dealerships will offer a concessional GST rate and internal corporate discounts to specially-abled customers. The customers will be offered the waiver and additional discounts upon the successful processing of the necessary documentation. While the corporate discounts will be offered on all models, the GST waiver will be offered to the specially-abled customers on all sub 4-meter petrol vehicles, with an engine capacity of less than 1,200cc.

Customers will be eligible to a maximum discount of Rs. 30,000 on the Renault Duster, and a cash discount of Rs. 9,000 on the Kwid and Triber. There will be other consumer schemes of the month that might be clubbed with the waiver.

Renault Triber Turbo Petrol launch delayed

The new 1.0L turbo petrol engine is likely to debut in the Renault Kiger instead.

According to a media report, Renault has postponed the launch of the Triber turbo petrol. The car is now likely to be introduced post the launch of the Kiger in 2021.

The report states that instead of launching the new engine in an existing product, Renault is keener to introduce it in a brand-new model, which is the Kiger. This makes sense from a marketing perspective.

The engine in question is the HR10 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which is a smaller version of the HR13 4-cylinder unit that is offered in the Duster and Nissan Kicks. It is expected to develop around 94 BHP.

At present, the Triber is offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 71 BHP @ 6,250 rpm and 96 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.

Team-BHP's Renault Triber Review is live!

Click here to read the definitive review of the Renault Triber.

What you'll like:

  • A 7-seat MPV at the price of B-segment hatchbacks. Lots of car for the money
  • We like the crossover'ish styling. Looks swell for an MPV!
  • Practical & spacious cabin, with a usable 3rd row. Ample storage too
  • Incredible 625L boot with 3rd-row removed. Many cargo & seating combinations available
  • Neutral road manners and city-friendly size (unlike most other 7-seater MPVs)
  • Equipment for a budget car (4 airbags, touchscreen ICE, reversing camera)
  • Loads of neat touches such as auto locking & unlocking, removable 3rd row seat, underseat drawer, fully adjustable 2nd row seats...

What you won't:

  • Boring 1.0L petrol engine lacks pep & punch. It is the weakest link in this package
  • Average NVH levels. Engine can get noisy, while vibrations are felt on the inside
  • Some misses such as a thinner spare tyre, no foglamps / steering-mounted controls...
  • Cabin width makes it a 6-seater, not 7 (i.e. 2 adults on the middle row, not 3)
  • Minimal boot space with all seats occupied; you'll need that roof-mounted carrier
  • No diesel or automatic options in the line-up
  • Renault's after-sales service quality is inconsistent

Rumour: Triber, HBC SUV to get turbo 1.0L engine

The Renault Triber is currently offered with a 1.0L naturally aspirated (NA) engine. According to a media report, the Triber and the upcoming HBC SUV could get a more powerful turbocharged 1.0L engine sometime in 2020.

The report suggests that the new 1.0L unit is developed by Renault-Nissan and has the codename 'HR10'. The 3-cylinder engine is a smaller version of the larger 4-cylinder HR13 turbo-petrol unit. It is reported that this engine will power Renault-Nissan cars in India from 2020.

While no power figures are given, the turbocharged engine is expected to develop 94 BHP. It is expected to get dual variable valve timing and an exhaust manifold partially integrated into the cylinder head. The new engine is likely to be sold alongside the 1.0L NA engine. It is not yet known if the engine will get an AMT option in the Triber.
