More images: Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift spotted undisguised

Thanks to BHPian Leoshashi for sharing these images with other enthusiasts!

In December 2017, an image of an India-spec, third-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift had surfaced online. With the official unveiling just a few weeks away, the new Swift has been spotted yet again without any camouflage.

The new set of spy images gives us a closer look at the new Swift. The front of the car has a frameless black grille with a large "S" logo in the centre. It has round fog lamps that are placed in a black plastic housing that stretches onto the air dam. The car also gets sweptback headlights with projectors and LED DRLs, and ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators.

On the sides, the new Swift gets blacked-out A and B-pillars with the rear door handles mounted on the C-pillars. As suggested by previous spy images, the car is likely to get new 5-spoke, diamond cut alloy wheels.

The rear of the car features a roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated high-mounted stop lamp (HMSL), a rear wiper, new LED tail lights. The tailgate features an "S" logo in the centre and a Swift badge of the left. There are no badges that indicate the variant of the car or whether its is a petrol or diesel version.

The new Swift is expected to be offered with the same engines that power the Dzire compact sedan - a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit and 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel motor. A 5-speed manual transmission is likely to be offered as standard with an automatic available as an option.

There have been reports that Maruti dealers have already started accepting bookings for the new Swift. The car is expected to debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Rumour: Maruti dealers accepting bookings for new Swift

Maruti Suzuki is set to unveil the new Swift at the 2018 Auto Expo. While the carmaker is yet to formally open the order books, media reports suggest that some dealerships have starting accepting bookings for the next-generation Swift.

It has also been reported that those customers who have booked the current generation Swift will be getting the new model if stocks of the existing model run out. Meanwhile, fresh bookings are also being accepted at certain dealerships. There has been no word about the actual booking amount though. Further, dealers have told customers that deliveries will commence by the end of February 2018 or by early March.

The new Swift shares its platform with the Baleno. The third-generation Swift gets a completely new exterior styling featuring a redesigned grille and new headlamps with LED DRLs. In side profile, the car looks similar to the outgoing model, while the rear features a new set of wraparound tail lights. Recent spy images suggest that the India-spec Swift will get 5-spoke, diamond-cut alloy wheels. Also, the car is likely to receive an all-black interior and a touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console.

The new-gen Swift will be offered with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines as the outgoing model. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an automatic.

Pic: Current-gen Swift production ends

Thanks to Inderdeep for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Production of the current-generation Swift has come to an end as Maruti Suzuki prepares to launch the third-generation Swift in India.

The image shows the last of the current-generation Swifts as it rolled onto the production line on December 23, 2017. It seems that the car has just passed the sheet metal welding and assembly phase and appears to be at an inspection booth. The note on the bonnet reads, "Last Swift:-E07460 Glorious Journey Ends here… For new beginning… Great Car by Great Team Date:-23-Dec-2017 Bye Bye:-Swift".

At launch in 2005, the car came with a 1.3-litre petrol engine. In 2007, Maruti introduced the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel which produces 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 190 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. In 2010, due to the BS-IV emission norms, the 1.3L petrol was replaced with a 1.2-litre unit making 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. The second-generation Swift was launched in India in August 2011. It was followed up with a facelift version in October 2014. Both the diesel and petrol versions came equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Swift made its debut in the Indian market back in 2005. By 2015, Maruti had sold 13 lakh units of the Swift in India. The third-generation Swift is expected to debut sometime next year. It is likely to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The hatchback gets blacked-out A and B-pillars, while the C-pillar has been partially blacked-out. The rear features redesigned tailgate and wraparound tail lights. Inside, the car gets a redesigned dashboard and a centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system. The new Swift comes with a three-spoke steering wheel and a twin-pod instrument cluster.

In India, the new Swift will get the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options. These will be offered with either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. Next-Gen Maruti Swift spotted testing in Thailand

A test mule of the next-generation Maruti Swift has been spotted in Thailand. The new model is based on the HEARTECT platform which underpins the Baleno and Dzire. The new platform is reportedly lighter and stiffer than the outgoing architecture.

The hatchback gets a new front grille, headlights, bumpers and tail-lights. The A and B-pillars have been blacked out while the C-pillar gets partial black trim and houses the rear door handle. The blacked-out pillars create the illusion of a floating roof. Also note that the test mule is equipped with rear disc brakes.

The interior has been redesigned and is similar to what we've seen on the new Dzire. It gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, a twin-pod instrument cluster, centre console with touchscreen infotainment and circular AC controls and vents.

The new Swift was first unveiled in Japan and was later displayed in Europe at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to be launched in India in 2018. Maruti is yet to announce the engines that will be offered but we can expect a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.3-litre diesel and perhaps an AMT version as well.

Maruti introduces 'i Create' customization options for Swift

Maruti Suzuki has launched 'i Create' customization options for the Swift. Customers will now be able to personalize their cars using the online configurator

Last year, Maruti had introduced 'i Create' customization kits with the Vitara Brezza. Now with the 'i Create' options on the Swift, customers can have up to 120 unique possible combinations. The exterior customization options include roof wraps, hood stripes, grille garnish, headlamp and tail gate garnish, alloy wheels, spoilers, front and rear bumper extensions and side skirts, side moldings, door visors and window frame kit.

Customization options for the interior include a flocking kit (red, blue and black colour options on pillars and center console), styling kit in wood or carbon finish, designer mats, neck and back cushion, steering wheel covers (available in red, blue and white) and seat covers in five design choices - cross highlights, vertical stripes, diamond quilting, mason style and silver streak checks.

Maruti claims to have sold over 63,974 units of the Swift in the period of April to July 2017 which is an increase of 25.5% as compared to the same months last year. The company would want to maintain similar sales figures with the introduction of such customization options for the customers.

Euro NCAP: New-gen Suzuki Swift scores 3 stars

The new-gen Suzuki Swift, which has already been revealed in Japan and Europe, has been crash tested by Euro NCAP. The hatchback has received a safety rating of 3 stars for the standard model and 4 stars with the optional safety pack.

It must be noted that the aforementioned ratings are for the Euro-spec model that comes with six airbags as standard. The optional safety pack adds an emergency braking system to the hatchback's safety feature list.

The Euro-spec model scored 83% points in adult occupancy protection. The car's structure was found to be stable in the frontal offset impact test. Knee, femur and chest protection was satisfactory and there were minimal cabin intrusions. The hatchback scored maximum points in the side barrier and side pole impact tests. The front seats passed tests for any probable whiplash injuries due to a rear impact. However, the rear seats were found to be incapable of providing proper protection against whiplash injuries.

The hatchback received 75% points in child occupancy protection. The dummy for a 6-year old occupant showcased poor protection around the chest area in the frontal offset impact test. Chest protection was also found to be poor in case of the dummy for a 10-year old occupant, during the side barrier test.

Euro NCAP also crash tested the Swift with an optional safety pack, which includes an autonomous radar brake support system that performed satisfactorily at highway speeds. It thus helped gain an additional star in the safety ratings.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the new-gen Swift at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will most likely feature some alterations in the feature list, including lesser airbags and the absence of the autonomous braking system. There might also be some changes to the car's structure to suit Indian conditions. As a result, the aforementioned safety ratings can't be treated as an indication of the upcoming India-spec model's crash test potency.

Rumour: New Maruti Swift to be launched in early 2018

The next-gen Suzuki Swift is being showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Maruti officials present at the event have reportedly indicated that the hatchback will be launched in India in the early months of next year. The car is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The new Swift is built on a completely new platform called HEARTECT. Suzuki claims that this platform has been designed and engineered to be stiffer and lighter than the older model. The automaker has also indicated that the new Swift has been tuned to come with sportier dynamics.

The new-generation Swift was unveiled for the Japanese markets in December last year. The India-spec model is expected to borrow most of the design cues from the International variants. However, it is likely that the car will be tuned to suit Indian conditions and could get higher ground clearance and some feature-related manipulations.

The Swift in India is expected to be offered with the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engines that are available in the current model. However, Maruti might retune these power plants for the new model.
