Vehicle retail sales up by 48% in October 2022

The 42-day festive period saw cumulative sales of 28,88,131 units.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales went up by 47.62% in October 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of October 2022 stood at 20,94,378 units, compared to 14,18,726 units in October 2021. Compared to October 2019, when 19,33,484 units were sold, total vehicle retails have increased by 8.32%.

Tractor sales increased by 17.42%, from 45,445 units in October 2021 to 53,362 units last month.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 51.10% to 15,71,165 units from 10,39,845 units in October 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 65.87% in October 2022. 66,763 units were sold, compared to 40,251 units in October 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales went up by 40.55% compared to the previous year. 3,28,645 units were sold last month, compared to 2,33,822 units in October 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales also increased by 25.40%. 74,443 units were sold in October 2022, compared to 59,363 units in the previous year.

The 42-day festive period saw cumulative sales of 28,88,131 units. That’s a growth of 28.81% compared to last year and 9.10% more than the 2020 festive season.

Vehicle retail sales up by 11% in September 2022

The waiting period, though, still continues to range between 3-24 months, especially for SUVs and compact SUVs.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales went up by 11% in September 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of September 2022 stood at 14,64,001 units, compared to 13,19,647 units in September 2021. Compared to September 2019, when 15,21,893 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 3.80%.

The passenger vehicle segment continued to show growth. Better availability of semi-conductors, new launches, and feature rich products are said to have attracted customers to dealerships this festive season. The waiting period, though, still continues to range between 3-24 months, especially for SUVs and compact SUVs.

Tractor sales dropped by 1.49%, from 53,392 units in September 2021 to 52,595 units.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 9.02% to 10,15,702 units from 9,31,654 units in September 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 71.94% in September 2022. 63,915 units were sold, compared to 37,172 units in September 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales went up by 9.71% compared to the previous year. 2,60,556 units were sold last month, compared to 2,37,502 units in September 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales also increased by 18.87%. 71,233 units were sold in September 2022, compared to 59,927 units in the previous year.

Vehicle retail sales up by 8% in August 2022

Passenger vehicle sales went up by 6.51% compared to the previous year.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales went up by 8% in August 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of August 2022 stood at 15,21,490 units, compared to 14,04,704 units in August 2021. Compared to August 2019, when 16,43,903 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 7.45%.

In spite of good monsoons, the festive season began with a dampener during Ganpati. The PV segment showed strong growth thanks to new feature-rich vehicle launches. Vehicle availability has improved but the waiting period continues to remain high.

Tractor sales dropped by 31.72%, from 72,208 units in August 2021 to 49,305 units.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 8.52% to 10,74,266 units from 9,89,969 units in August 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 83.14% in August 2022. 56,313 units were sold, compared to 30,748 units in August 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales went up by 6.51% compared to the previous year. 2,74,448 units were sold last month, compared to 2,57,672 units in August 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales also increased by 24.12%. 67,158 units were sold in August 2022, compared to 54,107 units in the previous year.

Vehicle retail sales drop by 8% in July 2022

Better supply is expected to bring down waiting periods in the coming months.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales were down by 8% in July 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of July 2022 stood at 14,36,927 units, compared to 15,59,106 units in July 2021. Compared to June 2019, when 17,94,297 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 19.92%.

July is generally considered a lean month before the festival season starts in August. The 2-wheeler segment witnessed poor demand and high inflation, an erratic monsoon and high cost of ownership made matters worse.

The passenger vehicle segment has been witnessing a dream run as retail sales are already higher than in 2019. Better supply is expected to bring down waiting periods in the coming months.

Tractor sales dropped by 27.72%, from 82,419 units in July 2021 to 59,573 units.

Two-wheeler sales decreased by 10.92% to 10,09,574 units from 11,33,344 units in July 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 80.41% in July 2022. 50,349 units were sold, compared to 27,908 units in July 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales dropped by 4.66% compared to the previous year. 2,50,972 units were sold last month, compared to 2,63,238 units in July 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 27.32%. 66,459 units were sold in July 2022, compared to 52,197 units in the previous year.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales increased by 27% in June 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of June 2022 stood at 15,50,855 units, compared to 12,19,657 units in June 2021. However, compared to June 2019, when 16,98,324 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 8.68%.

The passenger vehicle segment continued to see robust growth during the month. An increase in wholesale is an indicator of improved semiconductor availability. There was healthy demand but waiting period, especially for SUVs continues to remain high.

Tractor sales increased by 9.66%, from 52,289 units in June 2021 to 57,340 units.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 20.23% to 11,19,096 units from 9,30,825 units in June 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 212.45% in June 2022. 46,040 units were sold, compared to 14,735 units in June 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 40.15% compared to the previous year. 2,60,683 units were sold last month, compared to 1,85,998 units in June 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 89.04%. 67,696 units were sold in June 2022, compared to 35,810 units in the previous year.

Vehicle retail sales increase by 207% in May 2022

Overall sales for the month of May 2022 stood at 16,46,773 units, compared to 5,36,795 units in May 2021.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales increased by 207% in May 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of May 2022 stood at 16,46,773 units, compared to 5,36,795 units in May 2021. However, compared to May 2019, when 18,22,900 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 9.66%.

While YoY comparison with May 2021 shows an exceptionally healthy growth rate across all categories, it is important to note that both May 2021 and May 2020 were affected by a nationwide lockdown due to Covid.

The reduction in excise duty on fuel prices has reduced inflation and will have a positive impact on sales of vehicles, especially 2-wheelers. That being said, supply chain issues continue to persist and are affecting delivery schedules.

Tractor sales increased by 215.75% from 16,626 units in May 2021 to 52,847 units.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 197.66% to 12,22,994 units from 4,10,871 units in May 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 695.93% in May 2022. 41,508 units were sold compared to 5,215 units in May 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 204.30% compared to the previous year. 2,63,152 units were sold last month compared to 86,479 units in May 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 278.44%. 66,632 units were sold in May 2022 compared to 17,607 units in the previous year.

Tata Motors becomes 2nd largest carmaker in May 2022

Tata Motors registered the highest ever EV sales of 3,454 units in May 2022.

Tata Motors has overtaken Hyundai to become the second-largest carmaker in India in May 2022.

According to a media report, Tata registered sales of 43,341 units, beating the Korean brand by about 1,048 units.

It is not the first time that Tata Motors has outperformed Hyundai in terms of sales. In December 2021, the homegrown brand had taken over the 2nd spot, behind Maruti Suzuki.

Tata also registered record EV sales in May 2022, with 3,454 units sold.

Overall sales for the month of April 2022 stood at 16,27,975 units, compared to 11,87,771 units in April 2021.

Overall sales for the month of April 2022 stood at 16,27,975 units, compared to 11,87,771 units in April 2021. However, compared to April 2020, when only 3,77,232 units were sold, total vehicle retails have risen by 331.56%.

The months of April 2020 and April 2021 were affected by the first and second waves of Covid-19 infections in the country and witnessed little to no business.

With the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and China under lockdown, the global Auto Industry continues to witness a supply crunch as semi-conductor shortage along with high metal prices and container shortage prevails.

Tractor sales increased by 26.14% from 38,306 units in April 2021 to 48,319 units.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 37.99% to 11,94,520 units from 8,65,628 units in April 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 95.91% in April 2022. 42,396 units were sold compared to 21,640 units in April 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 25.47% compared to the previous year. 2,64,342 units were sold last month compared to 2,10,682 units in April 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 52.18%. 78,398 units were sold in April 2022 compared to 51,515 units in the previous year.

Total vehicle sales during the fiscal increased by 7.21% to 1,63,75,799 units.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales declined by 3% in March 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of March 2022 stood at 16,19,181 units, compared to 16,66,996 units in March 2021. However, compared to March 2020, when 23,12,868 units were sold, total vehicle retails have fallen by 29.99%.

Tractor sales dropped by 8.16% from 69,602 units in March 2021 to 63,920 units.

Two-wheeler sales declined by 4.02% to 11,57,681 units from 12,06,191 units in March 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 26.61% in March 2022. 48,284 units were sold compared to 38,135 units in March 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales dropped by 4.87% compared to the previous year. 2,71,358 units were sold last month compared to 2,85,2407 units in March 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 14.91%. 77,938 units were sold in March 2022 compared to 67,828 units in the previous year.

FADA has also released vehicle retail sales data for FY2022. Total vehicle sales during the fiscal increased by 7.21% to 1,63,75,799 units.

Except for the tractor segment, all other segments registered healthy growth. Passenger vehicle sales were up by 14.16%, while 2-wheeler sales increased by 3.81% compared to the previous fiscal. The CV and 3-wheeler segments registered a sales growth of 45.13% and 50.32% respectively.
