Vehicle retail sales rise by 34.12% (YoY) in July 2021

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 62.90% compared to the previous year.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales went up by 34.12% in July 2021, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of July 2021 stood at 15,56,777 units, compared to 11,60,721 units in June 2020. However, compared to July 2019, when 17,93,882 units were sold, total vehicle retails have fallen by 13.22%.

The tractor segment registered a growth of 6.64% in July 2021. 82,388 units were sold as opposed to 77,257 in July 2020.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 27.56% to 11,32,611 units from 8,87,937 units in July 2020.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 83.05% YoY. 27,904 units were sold compared to 15,244 units in July 2020.

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 62.90% compared to the previous year. 2,61,744 units were sold compared to 1,60,681 units in July 2020.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 165.94%. 52,130 units were sold in July 2021 compared to 19,602 units in July 2020.

Vehicle retail sales rise by 22.62% (YoY) in June 2021

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 43.45% compared to the previous year.

According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Vehicle Retail sales went up by 22.62% in June 2021 compared to the same month last year. All vehicle categories registered YoY growth as lockdown restrictions were eased in the country.

Overall sales for the month of June 2021 stood at 12,17,151 units, compared to 9,92,610 units in June 2020. However, compared to June 2019, when 16,98,005 units were sold, total vehicle retails have fallen by 28.32%.

The tractor segment registered a growth of 14.27% in June 2021. 52,261 units were sold as opposed to 45,735 in June 2020.

Two-wheeler sales increased by 16.90% to 9,30,324 units from 7,95,819 units in June 2020.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 21.98% YoY. 14,732 units were sold compared to 12,077 units in June 2020.

Passenger vehicle sales increased by 43.45% compared to the previous year. 1,84,134 units were sold compared to 1,28,360 units in June 2020.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 236.19%. 35,700 units were sold in June 2021 compared to 10,619 units in June 2020.

Mercedes led the pack clocking the highest sales in the luxury segment in May 2021.

FADA has released the vehicle registration data for luxury cars for May 2021. Car sales in May were hampered by lockdowns in different parts of the country and car factories were shut down for varying lengths of time.

Mercedes is back to being the best-selling luxury carmaker in the country after a period of 2 months (BMW sold more cars in March and April). Mercedes was followed by BMW, while Jaguar Land Rover took the third spot.

Vehicle Retail sales fall by 54.79% (MoM) in May 2021

Overall sales for the month of May 2021 stood at 5,35,855 units, compared to 11,85,374 units in April 2021.

According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Vehicle Retail sales fell by 54.79% in May 2021 compared to April 2021. Similarly, sales of all categories of vehicles fell by a huge degree with two-wheelers falling by 53%, three-wheelers by 76%, passenger vehicles (PV) by 59%, tractors by 57% and commercial vehicles (CV) by 66%, respectively.

Overall sales for the month of May 2021 stood at 5,35,855 units, compared to 11,85,374 units in April 2021. Since India was under complete lockdown in May 2020, a YoY comparison cannot be represented. However, compared to May 2019, when 18,22,566 units were sold, total vehicle retails have fallen by 71%.

This fall in sales is largely due to the lockdown imposed in various states during the month due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Apart from urban markets, this time, even rural areas were badly hit.

The tractor segment registered a de-growth of 56.60% in May 2021. 16,616 units were sold as opposed to 38,285 in April 2021.

Two-wheeler sales decreased by 52.52% to 4,10,757 units from 8,65,134 units in the previous month.

Three-wheeler sales were down by 75.90%. 5,215 units were sold compared to 21,636 units in April 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales declined by 58.96% compared to the previous month. 85,733 units were sold compared to 2,08,883 units in April 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales dropped by 65.91%. 17,534 units were sold in May 2021 compared to 51,436 units in the previous month.
