Yamaha applies for FZ-X trademark in India

Is Yamaha working on a new adventure tourer to compete with the KTM 250 Adventure?

Yamaha has filed a trademark application for the name FZ-X in India.

The letter 'X' is often used for vehicles that are built for off-road applications. Could this mean that Yamaha is working on an adventure tourer based on the FZ 25 platform?

Entry-level adventure tourers have gained popularity in recent times. Hero MotoCorp offers the XPulse 200, while KTM has the 250 Adventure. There is also the Royal Enfield Himalayan and BMW G 310 GS. Currently, Yamaha does not have a product that can compete with the aforementioned bikes.

Just like a typical adventure tourer, the FZ-X could also feature long travel suspension, front set foot pegs and a raised handlebar for an upright riding position. The bike could be powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder engine from the FZ 25. This engine produces 20.5 BHP and 20.1 Nm and comes paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
