Wrong oil destroys Endeavour gearbox; Ford repairing for free

The transmission oil was also replaced during the repair.

BHPian stanjohn123's Ford Endeavour 3.2 AT met with an accident and the car was submerged in water in June 2020. Extensive repair work was carried out, which was covered under insurance. The transmission oil was also replaced during the repair.

The car ran for another 5,000 km, but the transmission then unexpectedly failed. The authorized service center diagnosed the issue to be a solenoid failure inside the transmission, which they said may have been caused due to water entry. Ford agreed to pay 20% of the estimated repair cost of Rs. 1.1 lakh.

BHPian Turbanator suspected that the issue could be due to the authorised workshop using the wrong transmission oil. Upon checking the invoice of the previous repair, it came to light that manual transmission fluid had been used in the AT gearbox!!!

Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of Ford India, was made aware of the issue. Ford India moved quickly. Stanjohn123 soon got a call and was assured that the repair would be carried out free of cost. He was also assured that any future failures that were a result of the wrong oil being used would be covered by Ford India. Big pat on the back to Ford for taking care of its customer!
