Weird error on my Hyryder persists even after replacing multiple parts

I searched on the internet and found only one other Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder owner who had posted about this on a Facebook group but had no solution.

BHPian abhinavb recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid G which was purchased in March 2024. The car has run ~2000 kms and I am facing a strange issue with the car.

A couple of weeks ago, the car started showing a "Parking sensor malfunction" error on the dash. I visited the service centre and they had to keep the car for 3 days to even diagnose the issue. They tried to isolate it by comparing the values to another vehicle. As per the SC, the components that could have been bad were either the sensor, sensor wiring or ECU. Post three days of diagnostics, the error was narrowed down to sensor wiring and ECU.

The SC put the parts on order, which took 4 more days to reach the service center. Post which the parts were replaced over 2 days and a road test was conducted. I got the car back on 5th June. I took the car for my normal commute to the office and back on 6th and 7th and the error was gone.

However, on 9th June, when I used the car in the afternoon, the error was again back for a short time. During the 15 min journey, the error was coming and going. Post that I parked the car and when I used it again in the evening, the error did not appear again.

My observation is that both times, the error came when the car was parked under the sun in 45 degrees since morning (and the error came in the afternoon). Last time I took it to the SC immediately so not sure if the error would have been corrected once the temperature went down, but this time it has been corrected.

During weekdays, I park the car in the office basement and not under direct sunlight, hence the error is not seen. On the weekends the car is parked in open space outside my home under direct sunlight and both times the error appeared on a weekend.

I have two queries:

  • Has anyone else experienced this? I searched the net and found one other Hyryder owner who had posted about this on a Facebook group but had no solution.
  • What could be the cause? What do members think about my observation above?

Here's what BHPian aks812 had to say about the matter:

Have you got any accessories added like a 360-deg camera? Or It might be due to rats cutting the sensor wire.

Here's what BHPian shikh_oberoi had to say about the matter:

This has happened on my Brezza as well but both times they replaced a total of 3 sensors. I think yours must be the same issue and they should change the sensor instead of just the wiring.
