VW Ameo unveiled; launch in the second half of 2016

Volkswagen has just lifted the covers off its sub-4 metre compact sedan, the Ameo.

The Ameo is based on the Polo and has the same 2,469 mm wheelbase (Vento has a longer wheelbase). The car will be powered by the Polo's 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine and 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel engine. Both these engine options will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the diesel will get a 7-speed DSG option as well. Sadly, VW won't be bringing the 1.2L TSi motor to the Ameo for the time being.

All variants of the Ameo will be equipped with dual airbags and ABS as standard. The Ameo gets features such as cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, static cornering lights, reversing camera + parking sensors, electrically adjustable + foldable ORVMs with LED turn indicators, auto dimming IRVM, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, driver armrest and rear air-con vent.

It will feature a touchscreen infotainment system + 4 speakers with CD/MP3, USB, Aux, SD Card, Bluetooth connectivity, mirror link and phonebook / SMS viewer.

The Ameo will be launched in the second half of 2016. It will be manufactured at VW's Chakan plant, near Pune.
