Volkswagen Tera entry-level SUV unveiled in Brazil

The front bumper gets an oversized central air intake with sharp angular side vents and cladding on the lower edge.

Volkswagen has unveiled the new Tera compact SUV targeted at the Brazilian market. It is possible that this could be the Skoda's Kylaq's VW-badged twin if and when it comes to India.

The Tera will be built on the MQB A0 platform. In terms of the design, the front features a slim radiator grille with a VW logo in the centre and a thick chrome strip. There are swept back headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The front bumper gets an oversized central air intake with sharp angular side vents and cladding on the lower edge. The side also features cladding on the wheel arches and lower edge of the door sills. There is a tapering roof with a thick C-pillar, roof-mounted spoiler and muscular haunches. The rear bumper gets thick cladding along with a skid plate. The rear gets funky clear lens LED tail lamps connected by a black plastic trim.

The interior reveals a cabin design similar to the Kylaq. There is a layered dashboard with a free-standing infotainment screen. The centre AC vents are located below the screen, and the vertically oriented side vents are like the Kylaq. Same goes for the touch-based AC controls.

Mechanical details have not been revealed yet, but a 1.0 TSI turbo petrol is expected with a manual and automatic gearbox. A flex fuel option is also on the anvil. VW has also confirmed that the Tera will get ADAS functions.

There are no details on the Tera's size yet, but it is expected to be around 4 metres in length.
