Volkswagen: Polo based Virtus sedan teased in South America

Volkswagen is set to launch the Polo-based Virtus sedan in the South American market. A teaser image has surfaced ahead of its formal launch. 

The in the digital rendering, similarities between the Virtus sedan and the Passat are quite evident. The side profile shows the sedan-like proportions with crisp lines and an integrated rear spoiler, wraparound headlights and tail lamps as well as 5-spoke alloy wheels. 

It is based on the MQB A0 platform which is shared with other VW Group cars. Compared to the Polo hatchback, the Virtus, reportedly has a 36 mm longer wheelbase (2,600 mm) and a larger boot.

Recent spy images have confirmed that the Virtus gets chrome trim on the grille and around the front and rear bumpers. It shares the same interior layout as the new Polo which consists of a flat-face dashboard with a TFT instrument cluster and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets a new 3-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel and climate control with rear air-conditioning vents.

In the South American market, Volkswagen is likely to offer a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox. This engine produces 117 BHP and 162 Nm of torque. It will also get a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 128 BHP and 200 Nm of torque. This unit will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Virtus won't come to India anytime soon, however it is touted to replace for the Vento.
