Volkswagen Polo 1.6 GT TDI web launched in India

Volkswagen India has web launched the most powerful B+ segment hatchback to be sold in India, the Polo 1.6 GT TDI. The Polo 1.6 GT TDI borrows the Vento's turbo diesel engine, whose output of 105 PS-250 Nm is retained without any change. On the Polo 1.6 GT TDI, this engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard.

The Polo 1.6 GT TDI comes with an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 19.78 Kmpl, which curiously is lower than that of the Vento Diesel's 20.54 Kmpl. According to the ARAI, the Polo 1.2 TDI goes 22.07 Kms per liter of diesel. The car drives on 15 inch "Estrada" alloy wheels shod with 185/60 section tyres. 

Looks wise, the Polo 1.6 GT TDI is similar to the Highline variant of the Polo 1.2 TDI, save for minor detailing changes on the exterior. The car gets GT badging on the front grille and the rear hatch lid, which notably is devoid of Polo badging. These changes apart, the Polo 1.6 GT TDI is similar to the Highline variant, replete with smoked headlamps.

On the inside, the car adds GT branded door sills, "Milan" titanschwarz upholstery, leather wrapped steering, gear knob and hand brake, and an aluminum pedal cluster to the features and interior trim of the Highline 1.2 TDI variant. Twin airbags and ABS+EBD are standard safety features. 

Other features, including climate control, a factory fitted 2 DIN stereo unit with USB and AUX functions, and reverse parking sensors, are similar to what's offered on the Highline variant of the Polo 1.2 TDI. The Polo 1.6 GT TDI is available in three colours: Flash Red, Deep Black and Candy White. 

Newspaper adverts calling prospective buyers to test drive the Polo 1.6 GT TDI have begun appearing and the price announcement seems just around the corner. Notably, the on-road Pune price of the Polo 1.6 GT TDI, as detailed by Team-BHPian Tushky is 9.13 lakh rupees, a price that represents a slight premium over that of the Polo 1.2 GT TSI. Official pricing will be announced shortly. 

Update 1: Volkswagen India has announced pricing for the Polo 1.6 GT TDI. The car is priced at 8.08 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. Sales commence from today.
