Volkswagen group to discontinue 40 cars, focus on EVs

As part of a new brand strategy, the Volkswagen Group is likely to discontinue the production of around 40 car models. The group will focus on developing greener transportation technologies, as it aims to become the world leader in green transport by the year 2025. This is a part of VW's efforts to regain the fame it lost due to the infamous dieselgate emission scandal.

The Volkswagen Automotive Group currently has 340 model lines under various brands that are a part of the group, including Audi, Lamborghini, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Volkswagen, etc. Out of these, around 40 model lines are likely to be discontinued and replaced by electric vehicles. A company spokesperson, however, has commented that "A decision on how many models will be phased out or ceased has not been taken yet."

The company has drafted a future plan named 'Together-Strategy 2025', in which VAG will be investing billions of Euros in the development of electric vehicles, autonomous driving technologies, as well as ride hailing platforms.
