Former multiple Moto GP World Champion Valentino Rossi needs no introduction. Switching to four wheels, he is now a BMW M works driver and competes in the World Endurance Championship. To honour the legend, who recently turned 46, BMW has launched the limited edition BMW M4 CS Edition VR46. Two variants will be on offer: Sport and Style. Production will be limited to 46 units each, making a total of 92 cars.
Both variants of the M4 CS Edition VR46 stand out in their unique way. The “Sport” has a finish in Marina Bay Blue metallic, while both sides of the car display an outsized “46” in the darker Tanzanite Blue metallic. The “Style” comes finished in matt Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, with the “46” this time in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic on both sides. The outline of the BMW M kidney grille and one of the V spokes in the forged M light-alloy wheels – which, as on racing cars, indicates the position of the tyre valve, are painted in bright yellow. The “Sport” variant gets yellow on the brake callipers with the M logo and an accent strip over the door frames. The carbon-fibre roof is painted by hand and is adorned with a large VR46 logo (also in yellow, of course) and Rossi’s signature. The tailgate features VR46 lettering.
The yellow elements continue on the interior as well which features a Night Blue theme. The M Carbon bucket seats come with Merino leather upholstery in the Black/Night Blue colour combination. BMW has added Sao Paulo Yellow Alcantara on the shoulder areas, and there’s a yellow VR46 logo on the headrests as well. The head restraints feature a prominent yellow VR46 logo. Additionally, the flat-bottom three-spoke M Alcantara steering gets yellow contrast stitching and a yellow centre marker. The carbon fibre centre console features a “1/46” badge.
Mechanically, the M4 CS comes with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo engine putting out 542 BHP, that sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox. It does the 0 to 100 kph sprint in 3.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 302 kph. It gets the M Driver’s package as standard.
The Edition VR46 also gets individually tuned axle kinematics and bespoke wheel camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs and anti-roll bars. The adaptive M suspension gets a different setup, as does the electromechanical M Servotronic steering and braking system.
Those who buy the limited edition model will get a chance to fly to Italy and enjoy a very special two-day experience. Day one features a visit to the VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia, including a barbecue and meeting Valentino Rossi himself. On day two, you will head to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for a special BMW M Driving Experience with the latest BMW M models.
