Google has announced updates for its phone mirroring software, Android Auto. They are expected later this year. Here’s what’s new.
Android Auto will soon receive support for video and web browsers, like YouTube. This will enable users to browse the internet and play videos via the system. Browsing and videos will be displayed on the car's screen, and sound will come through the speakers. Google has been working on perfecting these features for a while now, through its growing fleet of vehicles that currently run on the company's operating system. This includes models like the Volvo EX30 and EX90.
Google says these updates should be available in all cars that have Android Auto. This means that older vehicles that received Android Auto updates will benefit from the new browsing and video playback capability.
Spotify is also getting an update for Android Auto. Users will be able to start a Spotify Jam session from their cars while Android Auto is active. Everyone in the car will be able to control the music as long as they have the Spotify app. Users can join in the session via a QR code displayed on the screen when someone activates a Jam Session through the infotainment system. Tracks can be added to the queue from there.
